our new garden

Some of these pictures are during the work being done, the delivery of the slabs etc. and the end result. They are in a bit of a muddle here, so I am sure you can see what is the before and after... It is now bigger and safer, as th decking was slippery when wet and - actually - decking is vile stuff and needs constant maintenance whereas slabs do not... just the occasional brushing. With a great and stylish new front area and front step into Hamilton Hall, and with the garden areas now all slabbed and cleaned up with new lighting etc. I am thrilled at the extra space and how it is such a sun trap for naked sun worshippers during the day and how lovely of an evening to sit and enjoy this peaceful area.

With scores of birds adoptiong our ivy wall last year to nest in, and again this year, I am thrilled that so many - a whole flock - are nesting with us and the songs they sing... or at least the young in their nests screaming for Ma and Pa to get home with dinner... is really loud and wonderful to hear.

I put up loads of bird nesting boxes which they have completely ignored - ha ha - and I am thrilled the local wildlife has chosen us as their home to raise their young. Naturally, I out out food for them and hope they will come back year after year.

The first picture shows the old Victorian tiles we found under the tarmac that had been there and added to since the 1950's - and after being amazed at them and wondering if we could restore them in some manner, we slapped sand over them and then new slabs and buried them for someone else in the future to wow and wonder over as we had done, and covered them up again for another - probably 50 years -
